It’s that time of year again, when animations illuminate Customs House, the Sydney Opera House glows with pulsating colours and patterns and light installations dot the city. Vivid Sydney’s last night is tonight (June 8), and if you haven’t seen the annual light festival yet this year, you should.

A highlight for me was watching the creative projections on Customs House, where the animations work with the architecture of the building – rather than eclipsing it – like the vines that weave themselves around its structure in the photos below and above.

I LOVED shooting the Opera House this year. I spent a couple of hours with a tripod and a remote shutter release taking long exposures from the top of the Sydney Overseas Passenger Terminal, trying to capture how beautiful the lights on the sails are. The best shots all seem to be when the sails are fully lit up, rather than the partially lit patterned projections. The ferries zipping past also made for some interesting long exposure results.

Below is more of my Vivid photography, and my top five photos of the Opera House (You read that right – five! Sorry, was very hard to pick just one for this post!)
