I had read in the news that morning that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were due to visit Edinburgh, stopping off at Edinburgh Castle and Social Bite (a social enterprise that helps the homeless through its five¬†sandwich shops¬†and restaurant), but I didn’t realise the article meant that day!

So when I strolled down Castle Street on my lunch hour I was pretty surprised to see an enormous crowd waiting behind barriers and a huge police presence. I stopped, not sure what was going on at first, and listened to those around me. They were all talking about Meghan Markle. That’s when the penny dropped, the royal and the royal to be were just around the corner visiting Social Bite, and the crowd were patiently waiting for a glimpse when the couple came outside.

I stood there waiting in the crowd for about twenty minutes, grateful that I had chosen the right time to take a lunch break. When the couple exited the cafe, every device that the crowd had went up in the air, and I had to stand on my toes to catch a glimpse. I saw them for a split second, a flash of red hair beyond the crowd.

In the photo above, Harry and Meghan are getting into their car just beyond the man on the right’s phone. It must be strange to walk down a street with a million pieces of plastic and metal pointed at you, as people watch you through the eye of their phones.
