Prague is like a Postcard: a photodiary from the Czech Republic capital

Prague is pretty picturesque. The city is filled with gorgeous architecture, involves strolls across the striking Charles Bridge, art and culture is everywhere and the skyline is full of quaint red rooftops. Prague was especially pretty when I went, in autumn when the leaves had yet to fall.

But I’ll be honest, at times I found being alone in Prague hard work. The three nights I spent in the city spanned a weekend, and it was absolutely heaving with an army of tourists waving selfie sticks. For whatever reason at that time, I found it challenging being alone in the crowd.

But come Monday, the city emptied out, and Prague and I could breathe again. I started to get a bit more of a feel of Prague beyond the tourists.

I’ll always remember the first time I crossed the Charles Bridge, I’d never seen anything quite like it at that point in my travels. The gothic looking religious figures loomed over the crowds, against a backdrop of the river, with the castle in the distance.

Two sunsets in Prague are special memories. The first, watching the sunset over the Charles Bridge from the riverbank amongst the autumn leaves. The second, watching the sunset over the rooftops of Prague from the hill of Prague Castle.

Franz Kafka said:

Prague never lets you go… this dear little mother has sharp claws.

It took some time for Prague to take hold of me, but once it did I was captured.

  1. I’m so glad you ended up loving Prague! The tourists can be SO overwhelming, but once you either branch out from the super-tourist areas or explore during the weekdays, it’s incredible. I think it’s one of the prettiest cities in Europe. And while the food is heavy and SO unhealthy, I love it too.
Once again, I’m LOVING your photography. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
