What to pack for London in Spring

Packing for a weekend in London in late spring? This is what I might wear. This post is a mixture of both my recent and fantasy purchases!

Outfit 1:

Jeans, striped top, trench, scarf and white trainers. This is perfect for exploring London for a day in spring, I wore something similar yesterday to the Camden Markets and felt comfortable.

Outfit 2:

Shorts, striped shirt, trench coat, scarf, white sneakers.

Basically this is Outfit 1, except the shorts account for an unseasonably hot day! Like the few that we had here in March. The trench and scarf could be put on for some warmth in the morning and late afternoon.

Outfit 3:

Jeans, striped top, espadrilles, trench, red bag

For a dressy casual night out.

Outfit 4:

Dress, white sneakers, red bag, trench.

This would make a cute day time outfit for sight seeing in London.

Outfit 5:

Dress, espadrilles, red bag, trench

I would feel good wearing this out for dinner and drinks in London

On the importance of trench coats:

I never got much use out of trench coats in Australia, and never really understood them before moving to the UK. They were too light to keep you warm, I thought. I felt that when it was warm enough to wear them, I’d rather go without outerwear all together. Fast forward to living in London and I’m a trench coat evangelist. I’ll tell anyone who will listen how amazing they are to keep the wind and drizzle off you without getting you too hot while running to and from the tube, and how portable and light they are to throw over your arm or thread through the handles of your handbag when you get a bit hot. They are my spring in London closet staple for sure. I own two very similar ones (a stone coloured Zara one and a beige H&M one). I need two so that I can alternate when one is at the dry cleaners! I can’t be without a trench for the time it takes to dry clean one.

The Nike court royale trainers are a recent purchase of mine, I realised I had two pairs of uncomfortable, cheap, white trainers that I never wore, so I decided to buy a nice, comfortable pair to replace them. I like that these are cut low around the ankle and are nice and padded inside.

I love the pop of red of the French Connection bag, and may buy it soon. The scarf is for added warmth, and I think it would look good with the jeans and trench.

I’d like to buy a pair of wedge espadrilles like these Mango ones. They look easy to walk in, which is good since London involves a lot of walking.

Capsule London wardrobe:

1. Jack Willis trench coat
2. Maison Labiche banana embroidered top
3. French Connection red small satchel bag
4. Mango blue polkadot ruffled dress
5. Mango esparato linen wedge espadrilles
6. Levi’s wedgie fit straight jean in rough tide
7. Nike court royale white trainers
8. H&M girlfriend denim shorts
9. Mango frayed edge scarf in mandarin
